TIME AND SPACE
Frame by frame animationA creature of habit searches meaning and correlation in a meaningless existence. A message from the vacuous unknown brings them back to the time and place where it all began. In the cradling comfort of a celestial friend they realize: You cannot bear the burden of another or change the outcome of your predetermined fate.
This comission was carried out as part of the programme RietveldTV, under this season’s theme ‘Two Truths and a Lie’.
RietveldTV is the Gerrit Rietveld Academy's monthly television show. It airs on the last Saturday and Sunday of each month on AT5 at 10:40 PM and remains online forever on Vimeo. Each month, an alumnus is invited to use the fixed 12 minutes of audiovisual material as a framework for developing a new work. RietveldTV offers a platform for alumnus to share their perspectives on art, culture, and the world. The broadcasts are facilitated by the academy and are created with complete artistic freedom.

Fanja Bouts is this year’s second alumna that we chose, her work is filled with rich tapestries of chaos and sincerity, with characters and elements who are only urging to pop out and invade reality. The work tackles this year’s theme Two Truths and a Lie with a very intriguing but also very congruent approach, with a look at the contemplations and thoughts of these characters.
